Personal Statement from Attorney Brian S. Cantor:

I am a fierce advocate for my clients and show care and concern for them and their needs. As a young man I learned valuable life lessons from working in my grandfather’s men’s clothing store and my father’s pharmacy.

I saw both my grandfather and father give their customers personal service. Both men had a very strong work ethic and I have used them as role models for how I treat my clients and emulate their work ethic by calling people back after hours if necessary or by taking home files to work on at night.

My father loved his work and taught me compassion for others. I would attend continuing education classes with my father and learned that your education doesn’t stop when you graduate from a college or professional school.

Educational and Professional Background

The University of Massachusetts where I received a Bachelor of Science in psychology cum laude and Western New England University School of Law, where I received my Juris Doctor degree, provided me with strong foundations in the fields of psychology and law and I have continued my legal education by being an active member of several sections of the Connecticut Bar Association.

I am a past chair of the Real Property Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and serve on their executive committee after also having served as their secretary, treasurer and vice chair. I am presently a co-chair of their Town Clerk Liaison Committee. In the 1990’s I was an instructor with The Metropolitan Real Estate School.

I am also an executive committee member of the Elder Law Section of the Connecticut Bar Association and am a member of the skilled nursing facility and assisted living facilities subcommittee. I testified before the Connecticut Legislature’s Aging Committee in support of use of technology for residents of nursing homes that include the use of granny cams. In addition, I am an member of the Connecticut Bar Association Estates and Probate Section.

Community Service

I also serve my community. Most recently, in 2021-2023, I was appointed as a Commissioner on the Fairfield Ethics Commission. My prior activity has included serving for three years on the Fairfield Town Plan and Zoning Commission, one year on the Board of Assessment Appeals, and four years on the Fairfield Representative Town Meeting, where I served as majority leader and chair of the Legislation and Administration Committee. For decades I have been both a Mason and a Shriner.

I Take a Personal Interest in The Needs of My Clients

Not everyone enjoys their profession or line of work. I am lucky to have found a profession that I enjoy. While my experience informs everything I do, every case or matter I work on is a little different and I appreciate the logic and academic rigor of the law.

Also, while I enjoy establishing relationships with new clients, one of the reasons why I like my job so much is because I have so many clients who I have built strong relationships with over the years. I take a personal interest in my client’s needs and sometimes in one family I will do the purchase on multiple homes they have successively purchased, drafted their wills and handled probate matters when their spouse or parent has passed.

The fact that they come back to me when they have a new legal issue makes me feel gratified. I take great pride in getting multiple referrals from my legal colleagues and greatly appreciate the trust and confidence they place in me.
